The “Somborske šnajderke” are an informal group, consisting of five women, mothers of seventeen children. Apart from their love for children, they also have in common that they are all women with experience of intimate partner violence. Shortly after the start of the pandemic, they teamed up and launched a weekly production of 1,500 protective masks with five machines.
Thanks to the support of the Safe House, secondary textile school, the City of Sombor and several companies, they donated masks to medical personnel, the police, employees of social work centers and vulnerable citizens.

Support, help and advice
Thanks to funds from the Endowment Fund of the Trag Foundation, the “Somborske šnajderke” registered an association and bought part of the equipment and materials to start the production of bedding, souvenirs and toys, which gave them the opportunity to become economically independent for the first time.
They generate the largest part of their turnover by sewing bedding and pillows for the needs of equipping homes for neglected children, and they invest the excess income in supporting women in a sensitive period, immediately after leaving the Safe House, through a new support service.
